Elaine Bennett, CEO of Guadalupe Regional Medical Foundation Encouraging growth As we enjoy the beautiful spring weather, Easter ceremonies, budding trees and colorful displays of Texas wildflowers this season, we are reminded to give thanks for new life. At GRMC, we are privileged to celebrate approximately 1,000 new lives in our Birthing Center each year and appreciate the many lives that are saved and helped each day by our medical professionals. The amazing story featured in this edition about the miracle of organ donation is perhaps the ultimate illustration of how medical technology and human compassion combine to provide a second chance at life. Every contribution to the Guadalupe Regional Medical Foundation helps us support the mission of the hospital, which is to care for every life that is entrusted to our care. As you appreciate the joy of spring and new life this season, please consider a gift to the Foundation. One way to have fun while contributing to this good cause is to sign up for the eighth annual Race to Raise 5K, which is on Saturday, April 27 . One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to our LifeSaver grant program, which is used to purchase equipment and materials and provide support for programs that enhance and advance patient care at GRMC. You can sign up for the Race to Raise 5K by visiting our website, grmedfoundation.org , or by visiting Guadalupe Regional Wellness Center. Robert G. Haynes, FACHE, CEO Healthcare is complicated. Anyone who has shopped for health insurance; filled out medical information forms; or tried to navigate the complex system of specialists, medications and treatments knows firsthand that the process can be confusing and frustrating, even in the best of situations. What is not complicated is the foundational relationship between patient and healer: a relationship based on trust and compassion with the goal of alleviating pain, curing disease and improving health. A person in distress requires multiple levels of relief—physical, mental, emotional, spiritual. An effective healer, whether physician or nurse or therapist, recognizes that optimal healing requires a connection between all those levels and needs. At GRMC, our patients and their families can depend on talented physicians and staff, the latest technology, and multiple service lines such as the ones detailed in this newsletter. But most importantly, we recognize that the foundation of our business rests on one-on-one human interactions, allowing us to make a positive difference with every life we are privileged to touch. Healing begins with trust and compassion
