A culture of caring remains at the heart of healing The advancements in healthcare over the past century are remarkable. For example, antibiotics only became widely used starting in the 1940s, revolutionizing the treatment of infection and significantly increasing lifespans. Continuous scientific research since has led to breakthroughs in medications, vaccines, diagnostic tests, treatments and surgical techniques. This edition highlights some of the latest innovations available right here at GRMC. I continue to be astonished with each new technological step forward, a testament to the genius of invention and the skill of our practitioners. We are committed to remaining on the cutting edge of these advances. However, we never lose sight of the foundation of our noble calling. Effective and meaningful healing still begins with simple, human actions: sitting at the bedside, making eye contact, listening, paying attention and respecting each patient’s perspective. This culture of caring defines and distinguishes GRMC. It is the expectation that we establish for our staff, that attracts and retains high-quality professionals, and that is noticed by patients and their families time and time again. Our growing community can rely on GRMC having the latest in medical technology and expertise, as well as our equally essential culture of caring. Robert Haynes How we support highquality healthcare now and for the future Guadalupe Regional Medical Foundation is proud to partner with donors and our community to advance technology, care and expertise at Guadalupe Regional Medical Center. A wonderful example is the new Susan Ranft Schmidt Endowment, established by Karen McMillan in honor of her longtime friend and colleague. This fund will directly support facility growth and capital projects, helping GRMC continue to expand and modernize to meet patients’ needs. An endowment provides a perpetual gift of funding because the principal is never spent, but the interest payments are made available each year to fund important initiatives. Endowments like this generate steady resources for new technology, future growth and programs that allow our physicians and care teams to deliver advanced, compassionate care close to home. GRMF’s mission is to help ensure GRMC remains at the forefront of medical advancements, so we can continue providing high-quality care for Seguin and surrounding communities. GRMF also strengthens community ties through signature events. Bras for a Cause raises funds for the Guadalupe Regional Cancer Assistance Fund, and our annual Race to Raise 5K brings together over 300 participants supporting Lifesaver Grants and the hospital’s general endowment. These funds cover equipment, technology or other resources across departments that might otherwise go unmet. Through generous donations, community events and your involvement, GRMF and GRMC are growing together to provide the expert, individualized care our community deserves. Thank you for being part of this important work. For more information on how to give back to your community hospital, please call us at 830.401.7209 or visit grmedfoundation.org. Elaine Bennett
