Guadalupe Regional Medical Center | Health Currents | Fall 2020

EMERGENCY CARE Emergency care is never canceled. Even in a pandemic, emergencies such as heart attack and stroke happen. Our ED is open 24/7 to care for patients with COVID-19 symptoms and other serious conditions. Mammograms Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths among women in this country. The best way to detect and begin treating cancer in its early stages is through annual mammograms. The American Cancer Society (ACS) advises exams for women at average risk of breast cancer in the following age ranges: •  40 to 44: Consider screening with yearly mammograms. •  45 to 54: Annual mammograms are recommended. •  55 and older: If you are in good health, you may decide to obtain a mammogram every other year or continue with yearly screenings. Colonoscopies A rise in rates of colorectal cancer among young and middle-aged adults has spurred the ACS to recommend that people at average risk for colorectal cancer begin screening at age 45. Findings will dictate the frequency of subsequent screenings. Cardiac and vascular care An important step in monitoring your cardiac health is regular lab work for high cholesterol and diabetes, as well as checking your blood pressure. GRMC offers two state-of-the-art cath labs and highly-skilled interventional cardiologists who treat both cardiac and vascular disease. Our nationally certified cardiac rehabilitation program is also committed to personalized and individualized treatment plans in conjunction with exercise, education, nutrition, stress management and group discussion. Wellness Center The GRMC Wellness Center is a great way to prompt regular exercise, from weight training to group classes to swimming. We are taking extra precautions to ensure a safe environment and proper social distancing. Elective surgeries Unless another mandate comes from the state to hold off on elective surgery and procedures, as we saw in March, GRMC and local physicians are currently open and available for all normal services. Our Clear Springs Urgent Care is open 365 days a year (including all holidays), from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and provides care for the entire family—from pediatrics to geriatrics.
