grmedcenter.com  | 3 Enhancing your care You don’t need to travel far for world-class medicine. At GRMC, we believe in bringing the latest services and the highest quality of care to our patients. That’s why we’re pleased to highlight two of our new, distinctive services: teleneurology and pelvic floor rehabilitation. Another service we’re proud to offer our patients is GRMC’s best-in-class inpatient, nonemergency teleneurology. Teleneurology allows a neurologist to observe a patient from a remote location using a video link while a medical professional helps to assess the patient in person. Teleneurology makes it faster and easier for GRMC providers to consult with a neurologist for suggested treatments or further recommendations for diagnosis. GRMC’s teleneurology program collaborates with board-certified neurologists who can be accessed in our inpatient setting 365 days a year. During the consultation process, the neurologist is able to diagnose the patient and, along with the assisting medical professional, devise a treatment plan. The most common conditions neurologists can address with this technology include dementia, stroke, multiple sclerosis and epilepsy. By removing the barriers that limit access to specialty care, patients can spend less time in the hospital and reach the best possible outcome. Through this innovative technology, teleneurology enables patients to get top-notch care while staying close to home. Teleneurology BE THE MIRACLE Guadalupe Regional Medical Center is proud to be recognized for our work in organ and tissue donation. More than half of deceased potential donors at GRMC become organ donors—making us the No. 1 hospital of our size in Texas in organ donation participation. Hospital Chaplain Tom Jones attributes this success to the conscious attention and culture that has been developed at GRMC to provide compassionate, dignified care to the dying and to their family members. Information about organ donation is shared when appropriate—resulting in at least half of the families deciding to honor the memory of their departed by helping another ailing family with a lifesaving or life-enhancing gift. Donor tissue is used regularly at GRMC— primarily by our orthopedic surgeons, who use donated bone, ligaments, tendons and skin in their surgeries. We encourage everyone to learn more about organ donation and to discuss your wishes with your family. You can become a registered organ donor as part of your driver’s license application process or at this website: donatelifetexas.org . Speed, convenience and ease Teleneurology is an increasingly important aspect of today’s neurological practices. Both patients and clinicians are benefiting from the speed, convenience and ease of this technology. It is now an integral part of modern diagnoses, treatments and follow-up care. Through the seamless access to remote neurology care you can receive at GRMC, we are delivering on our mission to provide advanced medicine with a personal touch.
